The first thing to do is get a general idea of how bad the situation is. Cracks (whether in walls or ceilings) are either structural or visual.

There are also specialist foundation repair companies but you need to be sure that your foundations are actually the problem and not something else. The engineer will tell you this.

Visual Cracks - easier to fix - usually indoors
Thin cracks less than 3mm wide
Short cracks
Cracks in old ceiling (plaster and lath) can be quite long
Thin cracks radiating from interior doors and windows

Visual cracks that are not getting worse are usually caused by very subtle movements over time, either within a year or two of construction OR more likely in Mosman, when a building gets quite old.

The hard part is to find a person to fix these cracks so that will last. Most plasterers find these jobs too small to bother with. And most Mosman painters give a quick fill then get painting.
